Il dipinto originale (vedi figura sotto) di Pierre Paul Proud'hon (1758-1823) è conservato nel Museo dell'Ermitage a San Pietroburgo, Russia. Il dipinto di Cézanne è tratto da una incisione e questo spiega la posizione rovesciata delle figure.
